United Capital Plc has confirmed the deaths of six of its employees in the devastating fire that engulfed Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, plunging the Nigerian financial services industry into mourning.
In an official statement released on Wednesday, the leading investment banking and financial services group described the deceased colleagues as “an integral part of our company and family,” saying their sudden passing has created “an immeasurable void” within the organisation.
“We extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and loved ones, and we continue to hold them in our thoughts and prayers, as well as providing all the support we can,” the statement read.
United Capital disclosed that it has begun making arrangements to hold a memorial service to honour the six employees, promising that their lives and contributions would be celebrated “with dignity and solemnity.” The company also pledged to continue providing support to the families and loved ones of the deceased during what it called “this most difficult time.”
“In this moment of untold grief, we stand together in solidarity, drawing strength from one another as we navigate this period,” the company added.
