The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and Union Bank of Nigeria have reinforced their commitment to the advancement of Nigeria’s accounting profession and overall financial sector growth through a strategic partnership.
This was marked by a courtesy visit by ICAN officials to Union Bank’s head office at Stallion Plaza, Lagos.
The meeting aimed to explore areas of collaboration, particularly in fostering professional excellence, ethical standards, and capacity building among accounting professionals. The discussions also focused on expanding opportunities for ICAN members within the banking sector.
Leading the Union Bank delegation was the Chief Financial Officer, Mr. Oluwagbenga Adeoye, FCA, alongside other key executives, including Dr. Abigail Duopama-Obomanu, Chief Compliance Officer; Mr. Ali Kadiri, FCA, Head of Corporate Banking; and Mr. Victor Ikeneku, FCA, Head of Business Assurance. The ICAN team was headed by its President, Chief Davidson C.S. Alaribe, FCA, and included Dr. Olumide Adedeji, FCA, President of the Lagos District, among other distinguished members.
During the meeting, Chief Alaribe expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the critical role of collaboration in enhancing the accounting profession. He highlighted the need for continuous engagement between financial institutions and professional bodies to uphold integrity, transparency, and competence within Nigeria’s financial ecosystem.
Echoing this sentiment, Union Bank’s CFO, Mr. Adeoye, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to supporting initiatives that promote professional development among accountants and ICAN members. He underscored the importance of strengthening the capacity of financial professionals to navigate the evolving economic landscape effectively.
